Dead Nation: The Joys of Broadcast+

Dead Nation has slowly become to me what Geometry Wars 2 on the Xbox 360 was…the game that I play over and over again without getting bored. I understand if most don’t get my obsession with a good twin stick shooter, but there’s a challenge in it that keeps me coming back for more. I never felt like the game was too easy or too hard, I just had to be smart about how I moved. What I want to focus on though is the more social aspect of the game.

Recently, I watched Jerz as he used the Broadcast+ feature of the game to stream his play session on Twitch. As he mentioned in a previous post, Broadcast+ allows the viewers to vote on two choices; one choice helps the gamer, the other makes things a little more difficult. Of course I felt the need to test it out. The first vote popped up in the chat: “’A’ for Endurance up, ‘B’ for more Jumpers.” Now last week, I was talking with Jerz about his progress through the game and he mentioned his hatred for the Jumpers…so yes I sent Jumpers. As I watched him take them out, I noticed that one had my username over it. Pretty cool touch, you can see who the jerk or jerks in your chatroom are and I’m fairly sure he was cursing me out at the time. (Ed.note – I most definitely was.) Don’t get me wrong, I boosted his agility a few times (and dropped it once or twice) but I felt like the real fun in it was sending zombie mobs, Bombies, and Runners. I’m looking forward to using this feature myself to give myself a little extra challenge.
