Buying Guide (September 2016)

Summer is ending. School is back. The sun is letting up a little. And the drought is finally about to end. Business is about to pick up, and who would we be if we didn’t tell you what to look for? I know who we WOULDN’T BE. The Cade Gang. So let’s get to it.

Sept 1 – Sept 12

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 – Salvation (PS4 Early Release June 6) – COD BLOPS 3’s latest and final DLC will include the obligatory maps, as well as the final chapter of Treyarch’s Zombies saga. That’s right, it all ends now. Zombies will be shot and questions will be answered. Get busy.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Edition (Sept 9th for PC, PS4, XB1) – This edition of Elder Scrolls Onine will include the free to play MMO as well as its first 4 DLC expansions (Imperial City, Orsinium, Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood.) Great time to jump in if you were on the fence methinks.

  • Star Trek Online (Sept 6 for PS4, XB1)
  • The Tomorrow Children (Sept 6 for PS4)
  • Jotun: Valhalla Edition (Sept 8 for Wii U, 9th for PS4 and XB1)
  • Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Spirit of Justice (Sept 8 for 3DS)

Sept 13 – Sept 19

ReCore (Sept 13 for PC and XB1) – I am absolutely in love with this game, and I want everyone with an XBox One (or PC) to go get it. Just go. You won’t regret it. Just trust me on this one. I rarely champion games around here, so if I do you need to listen.

BioShock: The Collection (Sept 16th for PC, PS4, XB1) – Would you kindly relive one of the most refreshing game series in recent memory? Bioshock still remains one of the best gaming experiences I ever had. And Bioshock Infinite is a complete mindfuck that must be experienced by any gamer that appreciates those types of stories. Bioshock 2 is ok too, lol.

Dead Rising 10th Anniversary Games (Sept 13 for PS4, XB1) – To celebrate Dead Rising’s 10th year, we are getting reimagined versions of the first 2 games, as well as Dead Rising 2: Off The Record. All 3 versions are in 1080p now at 60 fps, which should help smooth out the gameplay when the screen fills with zombies. Each game is 20 bucks, so you can get all 3 for the price of one retail title.

  • RIVE (Sept 13 for PC and PS4)
  • The Witness (Sept 13 for XB1)
  • Pac Man Championship Edition 2 (Sept 13 for PC, PS4, XB1)
  • Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 (Sept 13 for PC, PS3, PS4, XB1, 360)
  • Don’t Starve Together (Sept 13 for PS4)

Sept 20 – Sept 30

NBA 2K17 (Sept 20 for PC, PS3, PS4, XB1, 360) – Online. MyLeague. Finally. Bitch. I’ve only waited what seems like forever for it, and I’m praying they didn’t mess it up. Other than that, a redone animation system that does away with the predetermined outcomes is the highlight of this year’s iteration. Add in the usual improvements for the other modes and this year looks like another quality basketball sim for the fans.

Destiny: Rise of Iron (Sept 20 for PS4, XB1) – Here we are. 2 years later. And not only is Destiny still very much alive, it’s IMPROVING. Rise of Iron looks like the best expansion yet honestly, and fans are excited. So get your snacks, call in that sick day if you need to, and I’ll see y’all at 5am on the 20th as we start our new adventure. And…..welcome back Gally old friend. One more thing. Destiny: The Collection also releases on the same day. It includes everything up to and including Rise of Iron.

Batman: The Telltale Series Episode 2 – Children of Arkham (Sept 20 for PC, PS4, XB1) – Telltale’s take on Batman has had a good start, and the next piece will arrive on the 20th. I couldn’t find a legit trailer, so my apologies if this one is a little janky.

FIFA 17 (Sept 27 for  PC, PS3, PS4, XB1, 360) – FIFA 17 will for the very first time include a story mode, as you follow the career of Alex Hunter during his rookie season. The Frostbite engine will handle the heavy lifting, making sure the pitch looks and feels like it should.

Forza Horizon 3 (Sept 27 for PC, XB1) – Well this looks beeee-yewwww-teeee-full. Take control of the Horizon festival and make it the best car celebration ever. There are over 350 cars to ogle, including the 2017 Lamborghini Centenario. Sexy.

  • Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition (Sept 20 for XB1)
  • H1Z1 (Sept 20 for PC)
  • Firewatch (Sept 21 for XB1)
  • Severed (Sept 22 for Wii U)
  • Sonic Boom: Fire And Ice (Sept 27 for 3DS)
  • Yo-Kai Watch 2: Fleshy Souls (Sept 30 for 3DS)
  • Yo Kai Watch 2: Bony Spirits (Sept 30 for 3DS)

Loot Crate

PS Plus – Plus has an absolute gem in Journey, and I HIGHLY recommend you give it a try. It’s not a very long game so the investment is small, but the payout is huge. It’s just fantastic.

  • Lords of the Fallen (PS4)
  • Journey (PS4, PS3)
  • Badland: Game of the Year Edition (PS4, PS3, PS Vita)
  • Datura (PS3)
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (PS3)
  • Amnesia: Memories (PS Vita) – 2GB

Games With Gold – Get ready for Horizon 3 by playing the original, or test out Mirror’s Edge before playing the new version. Assassin’s Creed Chronicles is worth a look with free entry.

  • Earthlock: Festival of Magic (XB1 All Month)
  • Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China (XB1 Sept 16 – Oct 15)
  • Forza Horizon (360 Sept 1 – Sept 15)
  • Mirror’s Edge (360 Sept 16 – Sept 30)

There you go. Fall season has returned. This is a really solid month honestly. I see at least 7 games I would play. I would imagine similar testimony from others after viewing the list. Remember, it only gets worse from here. That’s before accounting for the PS VR which will be available very soon. So save your coins and let us know how the games you purchase turned out. Happy gaming!
