Buying Guide (Feb 2016)

Before I even get into this, I need to say something.

To anyone who is reading this I want to sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart. The Ourcade was closed for a while, and I have to take responsibility for that. Life was doing its best to tell me go f**k myself, and it’s been an extremely long journey back. While I am honestly not ready to resume my normal workload here, I CAN at least get back to letting you all know what to look for each month. So here I am. And once again, I’m appreciative that you’re still here as well. So let’s get into it.

Week of Feb 2, 2016

Call of Duty Black Ops 3: Awakening (PS4 Early Release) – In case you forgot, the PS4 gets COD map packs 30 early now. This first pack includes 4 new multiplayer maps (Skyjacked, Rise, Splash, and Gauntlet) as well as another chapter of the zombies game mode titled “Der Eisendrachen.” Fast forward to 2:40 if you wanna skip the joke part of this trailer.

Gravity Rush Remastered (PS4) – One of the Vita’s gems is making its way to the PS4 in hopes of expanding its fanbase ahead of the upcoming sequel. The game made great use of the Vita’s unique controls, and hopefully the Dualshock 4’s touchpad can recreate the magic. I’d say it’s worth a look personally. At least check out a video or something if you never heard of it. Oh you can’t find one? I got you.

  • Tales of Symphonia (PC)
  • Megadimension Neptunia VII (PS4)
  • XCOM 2 (PC)
  • Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 (PC)

Week of Feb 9, 2016

Unravel (PS4, XB1, PC) – I’m actually quite excited about this game. It’s giving me that LBP/Mario/Rayman feel. Yarny seems to be full of personality, and the physics based puzzle-platformer seems to be quite clever from what I’ve seen. Hopefully the vibe doesn’t scare some of the more “macho” gamers away, but it probably will. Such is life.

Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: Russia (PS4, XB1, PC) – This is the third entry into AC’s side scrolling “2.5D” series of spinoffs. This entry follows Nikolai Orelov and his quest to free himself and his family in 1918’s version of Russia. The entire trilogy will be available the same day, which includes AC China and India if you missed them. Here’s a trailer for all the titles.

Dying Light: The Following (PS4, XB1, PC) – This expansion to the sleeper title Dying Light promises to be bigger and better. Not only is Techland putting out this expansion which includes a whole new area to explore (including dune buggies!), but they are sending graphical upgrades, improved animation, and vehicles. The consoles also have the “Enhanced Edition” which includes all previous DLC I believe. I’ll let the trailer speak.

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 (PS4, XB1) – Say goodbye to the Ultimate Ninja Storm series, because this is the grand finale. I don’t play the series at all, but I did play the demo for this one. And it was pretty crazy. So from what I saw, fans of the series won’t be let down. Here’s a trailer highlighting new features.

  • Firewatch (PC, PS4)
  • Neverwinter: Underdark (XB1)
  • The Preposterous Awesomeness of Everything (PC)
  • Lovers In A Dangerous Spacetime (PS4)

Week of Feb 16, 2016

Street Fighter V (PS4) – The game that has the Eff Gee Cee in a frenzy will undoubtedly be the center of attention upon release. It’s been getting mixed reviews all throughout the beta, but I feel like EVERY numbered SF release goes through this process. In a year or two when we’re on SFV Super Championship Cleavage Enhanced Edition it will be the bee’s knees. Maybe.

Project X Zone 2 (3DS) – Namco + Capcom + Sega + RPG = Project X Zone 2. It also equals awesome sauce, so add that to your recipe book. The first one was pretty damn dope, so I definitely recommend 3DS owners check out this sequel. Get into this trailer from last year’s NY Comic Con.

  • Pixel Piracy (PS4, XB1)
  • Layers of Fear (PS4)
  • Bayonetta 2: Standalone Version (Wii U)
  • The Escapists: The Walking Dead (PS4)

Week of Feb 23, 2016

Far Cry: Primal (PS4, XB1) – Want some more Far Cry? Good! Want it with no GUNS? GREAT! The name of the game is survival, so do what you have to do. Craft weapons, use nature’s assassins to your advantage, figure it the hell out. Let’s take it back to the essence. It looks really unique, so keep your eye on it.

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 (PS4, XB1, PC) – I feel like I had this game in a buying guide MONTHS ago, but I searched and didn’t see it. Anyway, EA made the brilliant decision to make the game playable offline this time. All modes will be available in single player, but the real joy will still be teaming up with others for some garden mayhem. Here’s a trailer from the beta that was live about 2 weeks ago.

  • Mega Man Legacy Collection (3DS)

Free Stuff

Games With Gold – In case you didnt know, all free XBox 360 games will also work on XBox One from now on. This month the 360 will get Sacred Citadel (1-15th) and Gears of War 2 (16-29th).  The XBox One will get Zheros (Jan 16 – Feb 15), Hand of Fate (all month), and Styx: Master of Shadows (Feb 16 – Mar 15).

PS Plus – PS3 gets Grid Autosport, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and Helldivers: Democracy Strikes Back this month. The PS4 will get Helldivers as well, along with Nom Nom Galaxy and Nova-111. The Vita will receive Lemmings Touch, along with Helldivers and Nova.

There you go. I hope as always this guide is a help to you all. I think moving forward I will highlight my personal picks for the month at the beginning of the post. Maybe one no brainer, and one title that I believe in but you may overlook. We’ll see how that goes. See you next month!
