Buying Guide (July 2014)

It’s July, it’s hot outside, and you want to know what games will entertain you as you avoid the beaming sun. Well, I’ve got you covered. Let’s get into it.

Sniper Elite III (July 1 – XB1, 360, PS3, PS4) – If you ever dreamed of being a badass elite level marksman, this might be right up your alley. The fact that you can play this in co-op is a HUGE draw for me. Sneaking around re-positioning for the perfect sniper kill sounds like a jolly good time. Oh yeah, and you have a chance to do it for free! Check this out.

Guacamelee: Super Turbo Championship Edition (July 1 – XB1, 360, PS3, PS4, Vita, Wii U) – Guacamelee is BACK SON. We get all the lucha libre goodness of the original, along with an expanded storyline, new powers, new enemies, and new bosses. I can’t wait to play this game again. Luckily I don’t have to! If you have an Xbox One with Gold, it costs you nothing to play this game. So do it. It’s awesome.

The Last of Us: Remastered Edition (July 29 – PS4) – If you haven’t played Last of Us, and you have a PS4, buy this game. It was the best game of last year, and possibly the best game of last gen. If you HAVE played it, buy it anyway and play it again. It looks absolutely fantastic on PS4, and it includes the equally well done Left Behind DLC.

Quick Hits

Oddworld: New n Tasty and Futuridium EP Deluxe will both hit the PSN this month. Dark Souls 2 fans should prepare for Chapter 1 of the Dark Souls 2: Lost Crown DLC Trilogy. Saints Row IV – National Treasure Edition is essentially the GOTY edition, meaning the full game plus all previous DLC in one package. Finally, Child of Light will see release on the PS Vita.

Free Games

This month on Games with Gold, XBox One owners will receive the aforementioned Guacamelee: STCE for the FREE. Lucky lucky. XBox 360 owners will receive Gotham City Impostors and Battleblock Theater. Over on PS Plus, PS4 owners will receive Towerfall: Ascension and Strider. PS3 owners will receive Dead Space 3 and Vessel. Finally, Vita owners will receive Muramasa’s Rebirth and Doki-Doki Universe.

There you have it. VERY light month, but there are still some good games to play. Personally, I’m gonna focus on clearing my backlog this month. Aside from playing Guacamelee of course! Happy gaming!
