Mario Kart 8 “Buying Guide.”

So, you recently bought Mario Kart 8. Congratulations! You are one of the many who decided to pick up this gem. You may even be one of the real lucky ones who bought the Wii U bundle with the game. Now as my colleague Anthony has noted in his review, buying Mario Kart 8 and registering it to Club Nintendo will grant you a free game download. You have 4 choices, so we’ll have a quick rundown of each game.

New Super Mario Bros U

If you’ve played one Super Mario Bros game, then you’ve played them all. In no way is that a bad thing. A nice throwback to the 2D platformers of the past, NSMBU keeps the game play familiar, yet adds a few new things to keep it fresh. You can go through the entire game solo, or have 4 other friends join in with the Gamepad as an assist. If you don’t have this game, then this is the safest pick of the 4.

The Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker

Its hard to imagine a Zelda game being a cause of backlash. Wind Waker caused quite a stir when it was first announced. After the success of Ocarina Of Time and Majora’s mask for the N64, Wind Waker surprised everyone with its cel-shaded graphics and cartoony nature. Many people missed out this game, mostly because it the Gamecube didn’t do so well. With this HD remake, a new group of people will be able to experience everything the people who played this game hyped it up to be. If you’re a Zelda fan, or a fan of action adventure games, then this is the way to go.

Pikmin 3

Pikmin 3 is one of those games that you’re better off showing than telling. You play as 3 astronauts who enter an alien world and rely on these little companions to help you survive. Pikmin is a little on the easy and short side, but its very fun to play. Fans of beautiful graphics, relaxing music, and forgiving game play will be attracted to this game.

Wii Party U

Ok, so when I saw this as the 4th game listed I almost laughed. No way does the big N plan on playing people like this when they have 3 other spectacular games to pick from. Upon further review, this game isn’t so bad. The problem with recommending this is redundancy. Think of it as a watered down Mario Party. If you already have the Wii U with Nintendoland, then you don’t need this. The only real reason to get this is to play with family. However, NSMBU is a far better family option. So skip this one.

I hope this little buying guide helps you choose the free game you want after buying Mario Kart 8. Just remember that you have until July 30th to do it. Don’t miss out on a good thing. Happy racing!
